Gas Pipeline Trenching, Barrow-in-Furness (England)
The scope of this project was to dredge and backfil a four kilometre (438,000 m3) pipeline trench for British Gas in the Irish Sea, landing at Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness.
The trench was dredged by cuttersuction dredgers Oranje and Orion. The material was dumped parallel to the trench via a floating pipeline and spreader pontoon. After the pipeline was laid in place, the sidecasted material was dredged again to backfill the trench.
I worked on this project as a trainee site engineer, as part of the Boskalis trainee program.
