Land Reclamation: Tuas, Singapore
The purpose of this land reclamation was to construct a customs checkpoint for the causeway in the Strait of Johor, between Singapore and Malaysia. The greatest part of the reclamation works were undertaken in 1994 by Japanese contractor Penta-Ocean. Most of the work was subcontracted to Dutch dredging contractor Boskalis.
The land was reclaimed by dredging sand in nearby burrow areas with a suction hopper dredgers, Fomalhaut and Johanna Jacoba, bucket dredger the 's-Gravenhage and an excavator on a pontoon. The sand was transported to the shore by Noviomagumsplit-hopper barges or pumped through a floating pipeline. The total volume of sand was about 2.5 million cubic metres.
